Dr Salah Al Bandar

Since leaving Cambridge University where he studied Socio-Political Sciences and researched Islamism and political change for 8 years, Dr Salah Al Bandar has worked as a policy analyst, and as a Strategic Planning Advisor (National Security and Development), at The Royal Court, Kingdom of Bahrain (2002-2006). 

In 1992 Dr Al-Bandar founded the Sudan Civic Foundation as an independent think tank focusing on the strategic scope of domestic and regional policies. He then joined the Minority Rights Group as Programme Director (1992-1993). 

He was elected as a Councillor, Cambridge City Council (2008-2012) with special interest in community safety and social cohesion. During the last 30 years he has been closely involved in various capacities with national, regional and international NGOs working in the fields of group rights, conflict resolution, and democratic change. 

A writer on political affairs and a community rights activist, Dr Salah has contributed to TV, radio,  and press, including lecturing extensively about many aspects of political Islam, community empowerment, and race relations. 

​His current research focus deals with the triangle of group rights, organised violence and national security.
